Is it a wild ale, or is it a natural wine wearing a tuxedo? Boatrocker’s Foeder Jaune makes its triumphant third return, bridging the worlds of barrel-aged brewing and premium Victorian viticulture.

For this special release, Boatrocker took a complex wild base beer aged in their historic, 100+ year-old oak foeder and dosed it with a heavy percentage of Savagnin grape marc from their mates at Crittenden Estate Winery on the Mornington Peninsula. The result is a beautifully complex, lightly hazy yellow drop that drinks like a cross between a fine white wine and a French farmhouse cider. It balances a funky, rustic sourness with notes of ripe apricot, zesty lemon, and a bold grape presence. Supremely dry, quenching, and boasting a lively, champagne-like effervescence, this 9.2% ABV masterpiece is a sophisticated treat that absolutely demands to be poured into a flute.

Hargreaves Hill have long looked after lovers of imperial stouts, with their R.I.S. releases dating back something like a decade-and-a-half. Now, with 2025 seeing the Yarra Valley brewers mark 21 years of beers, they've decided to serve up something a little extra too.

That "something extra" arrives in the form of their Birthday Barrel Blend, playfully featuring a candle design in place of the "I" in R.I.S. This exceptional release layers bourbon barrel-aged vintages spanning 2021 through 2024, pouring noticeably darker and delivering an entirely new dimension of richness. The glass reveals complex notes of aged Pedro Ximénez sherry, maple syrup, and decadent chocolate fudge, backed by a prominent, spirit-forward character that unfurls as the liquid warms. With an added kick of boozy spice and a deeply comforting inner warmth, it is a stout tailor-made for celebration—though you'll have to act fast, as quantities are strictly limited.

Rated consistently high on Untappd and Ratebeer (even taking out top 100 beers in the world, plus top beer in Australia). Ramjet is a true Aussie classic, the first of its kind to use locally distilled whisky barrels from STARWARD way back in 2013 as the storage vessel for a big imperial stout.

Released annually in Winter, the base beer rests in freshly emptied STARWARD Nova whisky casks for 6 months. During this time, the beer soaks up the whisky and some luscious wood flavours, resulting in a big, bold beer that is a reflection of the barrels' previous inhabitant, exquisite cask strength Nova. Then comes the malt, both sweet and roasty, with a depth of flavour added by the wood. Lastly, there is a lick of delicate red wine character which is what the casks were used for before the whisky went in. The 2024 vintage was aged in a majority of ex-American oak casks, which lends a delicious coconut and vanillin character.

This beer will age superbly, up to 5 years or more, which will see further integration of the whisky, and a delicious rounding of character.

Boat Rocker Brewery House Red (Flanders Red Ale) 375ml

This is the Boat Rocker Brewery House Red. Created using the Solera method which takes approximately 2/3 of the barrel for blending and then topping up the remainder of the barrel with fresh wort. The Boat Rocker house culture has so many organisms in it now, it is consistently creating complex and delicious ales after 12 months. This complexity only increases as it gets older, up to a certain point…then the acetic acid kicks in, which is essential for any Flanders red ale.
